Don’t worry about my food. I have gained 5 pounds since I got here.

I have not seen any of the family except Frank since I last wrote you.

AI Notes

Fifth and closing sheet (numbered “(5)” in the upper-right corner) of the August 12, 1948 letter from John McCready FitzSimons (Hendersonville, N.C.) to his aunt Ellie (Ellen Milliken FitzSimons of Charleston). Same Barrovian Lodge stationery and pencil hand as pp. 517–520.

John reassures Ellie not to worry about his food — he has gained 5 pounds since he got here. He notes that he has not seen any of the family except Frank (Frank Lockwood FitzSimons Sr. of Hendersonville) since he last wrote, and signs off “With love, / John.” A faint pencilled identifier “John Fitz-Simons” is visible as bleed-through at lower right (its proper recto-front being p. 522, where the compiler’s later inked identification “John Fitz-Simons” is the canonical placement).

The signature “John” matches the inked compiler identification on p. 522, fixing the writer of the pp. 517–521 letter cluster as John McCready FitzSimons (b. 1890; son of Theodore Stoney FitzSimons; nephew of Ellen Milliken FitzSimons “Ellie”; brother of Louisa de Berniere FitzSimons; USN officer). Same hand as the 1918 Halifax letter (p. 446) and the 1928 Manila Hotel letter (pp. 447–451). “Frank” is Frank Lockwood FitzSimons Sr. of Hendersonville.

At lower right, the pencilled identifier “John Fitz-Simons” shows faintly through from the verso (p. 522), where the compiler later added the canonical inked identification.
