AI Notes
The reverse side of the fifth and closing sheet of John McCready FitzSimons’s Aug. 12, 1948 letter to Aunt Ellen (cf. pp. 517–521). The pencil writing of the front shows through faintly upside-down — when the verso is read in the same orientation as the recto, the pencil bleed-through preserves the closing ‘With love, John’ visible upper-right and the Barrovian Lodge letterhead seen mirrored along the top: ‘BARROVIAN LODGE / Mrs. T. R. Barrows / OWNER / HENDERSONVILLE, N. C.’ with ‘305 SOUTH MAIN ST’ at the left edge and ‘TELEPHONE 626-1’ at the right. A small inked numeral (likely ‘6’) is faintly visible at the corner of the sheet. At the lower-left, in blue fountain-pen ink, a later identifying annotation in the compiler Amy’s hand reads ‘John Fitz-Simons.’ The inked id is hyphenated, consistent with several other inked ids by the compiler in this section of the album — confirming the writer of the five-sheet Aug. 12, 1948 letter (pp. 517–521) is John McCready FitzSimons, son of Theodore Stoney FitzSimons (‘Tote’), nephew of Ellie, and brother of Louisa de Berniere FitzSimons.
Amy’s docket confirms the writer of the five-sheet 1948 Hendersonville letter (sheets 1–5 on pp. 517–521) is her cousin John McCready FitzSimons.
