Recognition and Investiture of a Diocesan Bishop
The Congregation remains seated while the lay officials and clergy of the Diocese are escorted to their places.
When the ministers and people have assembled in the Cathedral Church, the Chancel Party, including the Presiding Bishop, the Retiring Bishop, and the other Bishops, is escorted from the South Door to the Chancel.
The welcoming procession moves through the congregation to the West Door.
The new Bishop, standing outside the door, knocks upon it three times.
The President of the Standing Committee, serving as Warden, opens the door.
The new Bishop says
Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them and give thanks to the Lord.
Warden The Lord prosper you; we wish you well in the Name of the Lord.

AI Notes
First two-page spread of the printed liturgical program for the recognition and investiture of Bishop Christopher FitzSimons Allison. Left page is blank (back of cover). Right page lists the prelude music for flute and organ (Veracini, Tora, Bach) and opens ‘Recognition and Investiture of a Diocesan Bishop’ with the rubrics describing the procession, the new Bishop knocking three times at the door, and the opening exchange between Bishop and Warden. Composer ‘Tora’ is as printed (unusual; possibly a misprint in the original program for Tartini or similar Baroque composer, but preserved verbatim). Sonata in F movements: ‘Adagio Largo Allegro vivo Allegro’; Bach Sonata No. 1 in B Minor movements: ‘Andante Largo e dolce Presto’.
