The page is dominated at left by a blueprint (cyanotype) family-tree fan chart of the Barker family on dark blue paper, with all text and lines drawn in white ink. To the right of the chart, and below it, are seven mounted portrait photographs with handwritten cursive captions in dark ink.

Blueprint family chart (left)

A fan chart radiating outward, with rectangular name boxes connected by lines. The central caption at the bottom of the fan reads:

Barker (Alias) Coverall.

William, of Aston, parish of Claverley, England.

m. 1st Margaret, da[ughter] John Goulston, of Goulston, par. of Cheswardine, Eng., she buried at Claverley 26 Nov. 1576, five sons above by her.

m. 2nd at Claverley 17 Aug. 1583, Frances, relict of W[m]. Whitmore of Aston, she née Barker.

This W[m]. Barker “16” on Mr. Jesse G. Barker’s paper of 5 Jan[uar]y 1860, & 13th in descent from Randulphus De Coverhall, of Coverhall Manor, 1200 A.D. Common Ancestor of Barker family in Mass. Rhode Island Delaware

A small rectangular stamp at the upper left of the chart (a faint armorial seal). The upper portion of the chart carries a name-box reading Elizabeth / m: / John Paulet 2nd / Vincent 3rd hus[band] with descendants in adjacent boxes, including Desire, b. abt. 29 Jany 1736 / m. 28 Nov. 1759, Jas Ranck of Boston and Ann, m. abt. 1713 Rob[er]t. Thompson, he d. abt 1719. A separate left-side branch carries the Caillard / Sanford / Reynolds / Cushman lineage with boxes for Theodore Caillard of Charleston S.C. and Joseph Sanford m. 1719 Catherine Caillard. Other boxes branch outward through the fan, with names too small to transcribe individually at album resolution.

Upper portrait pair (right of chart)

Two photographs side by side at the upper right.

A small carte-de-visite (left) of an elderly woman in a white cap and dark dress, captioned beneath:

Ellen Milliken wife of / Samuel Gaillard Barker. / B. July 25th 1807 — D. June 18th 1874.

(Note: per the chart and other album sources the year of birth is conventionally 1807 and the year of death 1874; in this cursive caption the day of death is most consistent with “18th” but a “16th” reading is also possible.)

A larger painted portrait (right) of a moustached gentleman in a dark coat and light vest, captioned beneath:

Samuel Gaillard Barker. / B. 17th May 1799 — D. 11th Jan 1863.

Below both portraits, a handwritten list of children:

Theodore Gaillard Barker — M — Louisa Preston King —

Susan Milliken Barker — M — Mr. Christopher FitzSimons

Thomas " Barker — M — Mary Lucas

Ellen Milliken Barker — M — Thomas Porcher

William Irwin Barker — never married

Catherine " Barker — " "

Center: large portrait of Susan Milliken Barker

A larger photograph at center of a seated woman in dark dress with white cap, hands folded in her lap. Caption beneath in cursive:

Susan Milliken Barker — / B — June 25th 1827 — M — Mr. Christopher FitzSimons / April 26th 1855. / D — Dec — 14th 1900 .      1874

(The “1874” in the lower-right of the caption is the date of the photograph itself; family research records elsewhere give Susan’s birth as 23 June 1827.)

Right column: two further portraits

A small carte-de-visite portrait of a balding, clean-shaven older gentleman, captioned beneath in printed-style block letters:

SAMUEL GAILLARD BARKER

Below it, a smaller carte-de-visite of an older gentleman with white moustache and full white beard, on a mount printed Lindsey & Brown — Asheville, N.C. Caption beneath in cursive:

Thomas M. Barker.

Lower-left row: three portraits

Three carte-de-visite portraits in a row across the lower left of the page.

AI Notes

An album leaf with two principal items: at left, a blueprint (cyanotype) genealogical fan chart of the Barker family on dark blue paper, with white-ink names radiating outward from a central caption (Barker / alias Coverall / William, of Aston, parish of Claverley, England; common ancestor Randulphus de Coverhall, 1200 A.D.). The chart bears a small rectangular stamp at the upper left. At right and below, seven portrait photographs of members of the Barker family with handwritten captions in cursive ink: Ellen Milliken (wife of Samuel Gaillard Barker); Samuel Gaillard Barker (painted portrait); Theodore Gaillard Barker (Brookland, d. 1917); Ellen Milliken Barker (m. Thomas Porcher); Catherine Barker; Susan Milliken Barker (the central seated portrait, dated 1874); Samuel Gaillard Barker (smaller carte-de-visite); and Thomas M. Barker (lower right, on a Lindsey & Brown of Asheville mount). A handwritten list of the children of Samuel Gaillard Barker and Ellen Milliken sits between the two upper portraits. Margaret’s surname is Goulston; Elizabeth had two husbands, John Paulet and Vincent.
