Upper right — newspaper clipping. A small clipped birth notice with a centered headline:

JAMES WALKER McEWAN

Mr. and Mrs. O. B. McEwan of Orlando, announce the birth of a son, James Walker, on Monday evening, April 25, in Orlando. Mrs. McEwan is the former Miss Mary Ann Walker of Jacksonville.

To the right of the clipping, a pencilled annotation:

1948

[The clipping prints “Monday evening, April 25” — April 25, 1948 was actually a Sunday; April 26, 1948 was a Monday. Either the newspaper printed the wrong day-of-week, or the clipping ran a day after the event was telegraphed in. Family records cite April 26, 1948 as Jim McEwan’s birth date.]

Upper centre — photograph. A black-and-white snapshot of a small child standing in a living room beside a sofa and a lamp on a side table. Captioned in blue ink below:

Jim in living room. Summerlin St.

[Street name reads “Summerlin St.” — Summerlin Avenue / Street is a well-known historic Orlando thoroughfare bordering Thornton Park. This is the McEwans’ first Orlando address before the move to 1129 S. Osceola St. (cf. page 207, where Nancy is photographed at the same Summerlin Street address).]

Middle left — photograph. A black-and-white snapshot of a man in a short-sleeved white shirt and pale slacks holding a fair-haired baby on his right hip on a lawn. Captioned in blue ink below:

Jim + Bo

O.B. McEwan home 1129 S. Osceola St Orlando — Fla

Middle right — photograph. A small black-and-white snapshot of three children at a beach or lake, with a hazy horizon behind them — a dark-haired older child (left), a laughing curly-haired girl (centre), and a fair-haired small boy (right). A pencilled caption beneath:

Chris - Nancy - Jim - 19[??]

[this is a snapshot of all three McEwan siblings — Chris (the eldest, b. spring 1942), Nancy Fletcher (b. 13 Sept 1946), and Jim (b. 1948) — at the beach, year illegible at lower right.]

Lower right — photograph. A larger black-and-white photograph mounted at the lower right corner, showing a two-story stucco house with a low-pitched tile roof, screened side porch, and a tall palm tree at the front lawn. No caption beside this print; it corresponds to the Osceola Street address noted in the middle-left caption.

AI Notes

An album page with a small newspaper birth-announcement clipping at the upper right and three photographs below. The clipping announces the birth of James Walker McEwan to Mr. and Mrs. O. B. McEwan of Orlando on Monday evening, April 25 (the clipping as printed); a pencilled ‘1948’ annotation in the right margin gives the year. Photographs: at upper center, baby Jim in the living room captioned ‘Summerlin St.’ (an earlier McEwan address; cf. page 207); at middle left, Jim being held by his father O. B. (‘Bo’) McEwan on the lawn of the family’s house at 1129 S. Osceola St., Orlando; at middle right, a small snapshot of three children at the beach with a horizon visible, captioned ‘Chris - Nancy - Jim - 19[??]’ — the three McEwan siblings; at lower right, a larger black-and-white view of the two-story tile-roofed Osceola Street house framed by tall palms.
