Packet at upper left (vertical pencil notation on the topmost folded sheet):

  1. Written by my Mother — Mary Annie Fitz Simons — about her father & grand father —
  2. Extracts from the family Bible of John Hadley brother of M. A. F. S.'s grand mother Maria Ann Hadley.

[The packet contains the loose sheets transcribed as pp. 633–637 (the compiler’s mother Mary Anne “Minnie” Perry FitzSimons’s 1924 narrative and her three-page transcription from the Hedley family Bible — the surname canonical is Hedley, written here on Amy’s pencil label as “Hadley,” the same cursive H-e-d / H-a-d slip seen on p. 632). The relationship is “my Mother,” confirming this is the compiler Amy’s note about her own mother’s writings. M.A.F.S. = Mary Anne (Perry) Fitz Simons.]

[At right, in a long brace:] After the death of Mr. Perry, she married for the 3rd time Col. Wm. Fuller of Beaufort. They [had] the 3rd & last [child].

[Edwa]rd Perry Maria Ann Harriett Mauger (née Hedley)

Bottom of sheet:

Benjamin Dunkin [Mark] Kirk Perry Julia Drane Dessallieu [i.e., Bessellieu]

[Signed at lower right corner:] P.D.

[The two strikethroughs (‘Dunkin’ over ‘Mark Kirk’, and ‘Drane’ over ‘Dessallieu’) are the writer’s own mid-stream corrections. The final form names Benjamin Mark Kirk Perry m. Julia Dessallieu — but per the Bessellieu family list at lower right of this album page, the correct surname is Bessellieu (not Dessallieu). The standard family record for this marriage is Benjamin Faneuil Dunkin Perry (B. F. D. Perry, 1834–1874) m. Julia Virginia Bessellieu — i.e., the first strikethrough restores the canonical “Dunkin” middle name. Donkin Drayton Perry (B. F. D. Perry’s brother) is a separate man, who married Jane Miller (per pp. 624 and 628).]

Small card at lower right — a Bessellieu family list:

Elizabeth Howell of Savannah, Georgia married Charles Mason Bessellieu of Grahamville, South Carolina

Their children were:

Annie Cecelia, Jane William Edward John Charles Mason Thurston Julia Virginia, married B. F. Dunkin Perry.

[Side annotation in cursive across the lower-right of the card:]

In the [crypt?] of Christ Church grave[-yard] Charleston, S.C. lies a stone to the memory of one of the Bessellieu family interred 1817 [?].

AI Notes

An album page showing three mounted items: a packet of folded family papers at the upper left (with vertical pencil notation on the topmost sheet), a single sheet of laid paper bearing a handwritten Perry/Drayton family tree at the upper right (held down with strips of yellow gummed tape at top and bottom, signed ‘P.D.’ in lower right corner), and a smaller card at the lower right with a list of Bessellieu family names. The family-tree sheet bears a marginal annotation ‘See old Bible’ beside Susannah Rawlins (and again on the right margin beside Susannah Postell). The envelope of a Grace Church (Camden, S.C.) mailing has been folded back. The packet sheet’s cursive label reads 'Written by my Mother - Mary Annie Fitz Simons about her father & grand father. Extracts from the family Bible of John Hadley brother of M.A.F.S.‘s grandmother Maria Ann Hadley’. The lower-right card is the family of Elizabeth Howell of Savannah Ga. who married Charles Mason Bessellieu of Grahamville, S.C.; their daughter Julia Virginia Bessellieu married B. F. Dunkin Perry. Key dates: Susannah Rawlins died July 20, 1797; Elizabeth Perry b. July 20, 1754; Susannah Perry Bapt March 26, 1747 / Died Oct 19, 1809 (per old Bible); Benjamin Perry (the elder) b. April 23, 1722. The bottom-of-tree reading is ‘Benjamin Dunkin (struck through) Kirk Perry’ m. ‘Julia Drane (struck through) Dessallieu’ — the strikethroughs are the writer’s corrections, the final form is the canonical Bessellieu marriage.

The card records the family of Elizabeth Howell of Savannah Georgia, who married Charles Mason Bessellieu of Grahamville, S.C.; eight named children including Julia Virginia Bessellieu, who married B. F. Dunkin Perry — the same marriage recorded on the family tree above (where the surname is written as ‘Dessallieu’ / strikethrough ‘Drane’).
