Newspaper clipping (upper left), with two-column-wide photograph of L. W. Barrett. Caption beneath the picture:

L. W. BARRETT (LEFT), D. McK. ALLSTON JR. New Vice President And New Trust Officer

Barrett, Allston Win Promotions At C&S

Lawrence W. Barrett has been named vice president and trust officer and Donald McKay Allston Jr. has been named trust officer of the Citizens & Southern National Bank.

The announcement was made following the regular meeting of the board of directors at the 46 Broad St. office.

The promotions reflect the growth of the C&S trust department and its increasing importance in the operation of the bank in Charleston, a bank spokesman said.

Barrett, trust officer of the bank since 1940, had served previously in various official capacities in the commercial department. He is a native of Brockton, Mass. After he was graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1917, he served in the U. S. Army. He was separated from the service in Charleston in 1919 and has made this city his home since that time.

[The clipping continues at right of column 1:]

L. W. Barrett Jr. of Charleston and the Rev. Harold E. Barrett of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

Allston, the son of Donald McKay Allston and Mary FitzSimons Allston of Charleston, was educated in local schools and at St. Paul’s in Concord, N. H.

CITADEL GRADUATE

He was graduated from The Citadel in 1949 and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1951. He came to work for the C&S Bank in 1951 and was made assistant trust officer in 1953.

He is a member of the Carolina Yacht Club, the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and the South Carolina Bar Assn. He and his wife, the former Miss Margarita FitzSimons of Hendersonville, N.C., attend the Holy Trinity Protestant Episcopal Church. They and their three children live at 625 Wappoo Dr., Riverland Terrace.

The clipping covers the upper portion of the letter, including the addressee block. The full text of the letter is visible on page 577.
