[Printed letterhead in blue, identical to page 447, at top of sheet. The pencil page number ‘(4)’ is written just below the central Manila Hotel device.]

The body of the letter resumes, written in blue-black ink:

and it was very pleasant to be made to feel at home.

Drew a rotten temporary job here — 8 hours out in the hot sun assisting in some construction rocks work. Up each morning at 6.30 a.m. Have been so busy on it have not even had time to get my trunks.

Please send this to “Dad” and ask him to forward to Ellie, as I do not know whether I will be able to

Fourth sheet of the five-page Manila Hotel letter (pages 447–451). Page-number ‘(4)’ is pencilled at top, just below the central Manila Hotel device. The writer closes the dinner-with-Dolly thread (it was pleasant to be made to feel at home) and pivots to his own work: he has drawn a ‘rotten temporary job’ assisting in some construction, eight hours out in the hot sun, up each morning at 6.30 a.m., and so busy he has not had time even to collect his trunks. He asks the recipient (‘Chubby’) to forward the letter to ‘Dad’ (Theodore Stoney FitzSimons) and ask him to pass it on to ‘Ellie’ (Ellen Milliken FitzSimons, the Charleston Librarian) — a chain of forwarding consistent with a sibling letter that the writer is too pressed for time to copy. Strikethroughs: ‘rocks’ (corrected to ‘work’), an aborted ‘had’ before ‘time’, and ‘know’ before ‘whether’. Writer identified as John McCready FitzSimons (see notes, p. 447).
