[Printed letterhead in blue, identical to page 447, at top of sheet. The pencil page number ‘(3)’ is written just below the central Manila Hotel device.]

The body of the letter resumes, written in blue-black ink:

Am stopping at this hotel and wish I could find somewhere else as it is costing me $8.00 per day, American Plan.

Third sheet of the five-page Manila Hotel letter (pages 447–451). Page-number ‘(3)’ is pencilled at the top, just below the printed letterhead’s central Manila Hotel device. The writer continues from page 448’s mention of an uncabled message: a five-word cable from Shanghai would have cost $15.00, and he had no definite information. He complains the Manila Hotel is costing him $8.00 per day American Plan and he wishes he could find somewhere cheaper. He then reports dining with Dolly Middleton — now Mrs. Van Hoot, wife of Major Van Hoot, M.C. (Medical Corps), and sister of Margaret Middleton who married Foster FitzSimons. The Van Hoots are stationed at Cavite (the same Cavite Navy Yard where the writer is reporting for Destroyer Squadron 13 duty). The word ‘yesterday’ is struck through after ‘Dined with Dolly Middleton’. Writer identified as John McCready FitzSimons (see notes, p. 447).
