                        Tuesday

Dear Mother,

We got back Sunday night after leaving Panama City that morning. The time sure did go by fast and it seems like now that our vacation was months ago. We sure did enjoy staying with you all especially all those good meals.

Guess you are wondering why I’m writing you and not phoning, it’s because I wanted to tell you about our plans. Think I told you while we’re home that Janice’s Father had developed some sort of heart trouble and the doctors had told him that he must slow down. Well, while we’re in Panama City he asked me if I would be interested in going to work for him with the intention of some day buying him out. We told him this Saturday night before [continues on page 372]

First sheet of a three-page letter on cream wove paper in blue-ink cursive, dated “Tuesday” at the upper right and beginning “Dear Mother.” The writer is Samuel Gaillard FitzSimons III (Sam Jr. and Mary’s son, “Sambo’s son” — Sam Jr. having died 17 Oct 1961, see page 367 obituary); the addressee is his widowed mother Mary Haddow FitzSimons. Sam writes from home (Pine Bluff, Ark., per the p367 birth announcement) after a Sunday-night return from a visit to her in Panama City. He explains that Janice’s father had developed heart trouble and the doctors had told him to slow down; while Sam and Janice were visiting in Panama City, Janice’s father asked Sam if he would consider going to work for him with the intention of some day buying him out. Pairs with pages 372 and 373 (continuation and signature). Mary forwarded this letter to her sister-in-law Mary Annie FitzSimons Allston (“Minnie”) with a cover letter on pages 374–375. surname HadlockHaddow in people-list (per p366 enhanced key block and the IIII batch p369/p370 anchor); writer canonicalized to Samuel Gaillard FitzSimons III (with no parenthetical alias — Sam Jr.'s 1961 death makes “the” Sam III unambiguous); removed speculative “J. P.” identification of Janice’s father (the letter never names him; only Mary’s p374 cover letter offers a partial reading, Mr. [Cooperath?]); confirmed “Janice’s Father” reading (the writer capitalized Father).
