Dear Sam:
It is good to hear that you are better my own dear fine old brother, a stand by and help to us all, all your life, and a happiness to all you come in contact with.

AI Notes
First page of a two-page pencilled letter on cream paper printed at the head ‘CHARLESTON LIBRARY SOCIETY / CHARLESTON, S. C.’ in blue. Date ‘Aug. 28, 1927’ is written by hand at the upper right. The letter is addressed ‘Dear Sam’ and signed on page 316 ‘Affec. E. M. F.’ — the writer is Ellen Milliken FitzSimons (b. 1862, d. 1953), the Charleston Library Society Librarian 1898–1948, who is using her own office stationery. The recipient ‘Sam’ is her brother Samuel Gaillard FitzSimons Sr. (b. 1856), then about 71 and recovering from an illness; references to ‘Minnie’ (his wife Mary Anne Perry FitzSimons), ‘Gillie’ (her brother Gaillard Stoney FitzSimons, the compiler Amy’s father) and ‘Huger’ on the second sheet locate the correspondence within the Charleston/Mountains FitzSimons circle. The sheet shows a vertical and horizontal fold and slight foxing at the centre.
