It seems a long time since I wrote to your dear Sissy. May be the cause I missed your letter [illegible] very dilatory, but as I hope [illegible] in any [illegible] frequency [illegible] not in the composition of my letters I shall astonish and I hope gratify my sister, by writing her an unimployed letter (is’nt that so?) I intended this to have been written on your birth day to show you that I had been thinking of you. We three — Miss Louisa, Miss Ellen & I — drank your health and many wishes for many happy returns were expressed. Your next [birthday?] will be able to celebrate at home — neither.
