shadows. Mary said she didn’t mind any one knowing only does not want him to know. The dotors hope to dissolve blood clots. I called Mary Hampton this morning. She said he still had the headache. Of course he is old 78 which makes it bad for him. I am 76 & Fitz is 79 so we are all about the same age. Let-me know as soon as you can a postal is all that is necessary I am swamped with work but take each in turn. You will get the data as soon as I can do it. Love to you & Buck,
Aff Mabel.

Closing page of Mabel’s February 20, 1960 letter to Amy. Continues the description of Fitz’s illness — he sees only shadows; doctors hope to dissolve the blood clots. Mabel notes Fitz is 78, she is 76, Fitz is 79. Asks Amy to send a postal acknowledging the work. Closes ‘Aff Mabel.’ Mabel’s idiosyncratic ‘dotors’ (for doctors, c. dropped) and her ‘Let-me’ (hyphenated) are preserved as in the source. The internal age inconsistency (‘he is old 78’ followed by ‘Fitz is 79’) is in the source — likely Mabel writing imprecisely about Fitz’s age between his birthday. ‘Buck’ in the closing ‘Love to you & Buck’ is the family nickname of Amy’s brother Samuel Gaillard FitzSimons Jr. (1904–1961), the consistent referent of ‘Buck’ throughout the album.
