Letter from Margaret Baumeister to Minnie, April 20, 1953 — sheet 4 (closing)
Book 2, Page 222 ·1953
Transcription
I had asked her to come here, but she feels more at home with her cousin, and it is nearer the hospital, of course. Dr. Corbelle will come back Saturday night. They will be with Puck two hours on Sunday, and the operation will take place on Monday. On Sunday they will try to prepare the little fellow, in some way, for the amputation. He only imagines it, so far.
I can’t tell you, Minnie, how that girl is standing up under this thing. No soldier on the battle field shows more valor, more courage. I wish it were in our power to help more.
I will write you more later,
Affectionately, Margaret
[Postscript along the bottom margin:]
The minister, Mrs. McCandless, wrote Dee at once.
