A pale stationery envelope franked with a 3-cent purple Thomas Jefferson stamp and a 3-cent purple printed indicia (Statue of Liberty/Washington profile) at the upper right. A purple ‘VIA AIR MAIL’ rubber-stamp impression crosses the upper left, with the words ‘Air mail’ also written in ink above the stamp. The postmark is partial and largely illegible. Addressed in blue fountain-pen ink. The destination ‘303 Norman Road, Green Acres, Portsmouth, Va.’ is the Corbell family home address (same as Puck Corbell’s return address on book-001/p383) — so Amy was visiting her daughter Emma Dee Walker Corbell’s household in Portsmouth when this letter arrived. The 3¢ first-class rate dates the envelope to the 1950s (before the rate change in 1958).
