Transcription
A large half-tone newspaper photograph of a tablescape. An ornate cut-glass lamp with a floral-printed shade stands at the left of a drop-leaf table; to the right is a tall floral arrangement in a footed vase. Between them on the table top sit a small inlaid box (presumably the cigarette box mentioned in the caption), a folded paper or envelope, and a pair of dark eyeglasses.
Printed caption beneath the photograph:
A lamp, a cigarette box and an arrangement of pansies, larkspur, snapdragon and shrimp plant on a drop-leaf occasional table make up this charming display. It was done by Mrs. J. P. Walker Jr.
AI Notes
A full-page enlargement of the newspaper clipping pasted onto the preceding page (203). It shows a half-tone photograph of a tablescape with an ornate cut-glass lamp (floral-printed shade), a floral arrangement of pansies/larkspur/snapdragon/shrimp plant in a footed vase, a cigarette box, and assorted small objects on a drop-leaf occasional table. The printed caption identifies the arrangement as the work of Mrs. J. P. Walker Jr. — i.e. Anne Knight Walker, wife of James Pickens Walker Jr. (‘Bo’) and daughter-in-law of the compiler Amy. The Walker Jr. household was at 4275 Garibaldi Avenue, Jacksonville, Fla. (the address used on the Grace Church / Camden envelope on book-001/p639). The credit belongs to Anne Knight Walker (Mrs. J. P. Walker, junior), the compiler’s daughter-in-law — not Amy herself (Mrs. J. P. Walker, senior); the place is the Walker Jr. residence in Jacksonville rather than Highlands, N.C.
This is the same clipping affixed to page 203, here shown opened out so the full image is visible. “Mrs. J. P. Walker Jr.” is Anne Knight Walker — daughter-in-law of the compiler Amy FitzSimons (Mrs. James Pickens Walker) — married Bo in June 1941 (per book-002/p191).
