It was darling of Dee to want him for the baby’s godfather — I wish he could have known it — He would have been so proud — He wrote the baby a letter just a few weeks ago and called him “Pucklett” — Doesn’t that sound like Coburn?

Third page of Julia’s letter of Feb. 10, 1945. Julia recounts the kindness of Dee in wanting Coburn to be the baby’s godfather, recalls a letter Coburn wrote the baby a few weeks before he died (in which he called the child ‘Pucklett’), reflects on being back in their little apartment, and on the constant memory of the days of Coburn’s illness. She quotes herself telling ‘Mrs. Pickens’ — Coburn’s mother — that Coburn had been to her a combination of tender, loving husband, child to care for, and a very mature man of great strength of character on whom to lean.
Continued on page 151. “Mrs. Pickens” referenced here is Coburn’s mother, Julia’s mother-in-law — not to be confused with Amy FitzSimons Walker, the compiler. The “baby” appears to be Dee and Bob Corbell’s recently born child, for whom Coburn was to have been godfather.
