AI Notes
Album page with an engraved ‘At Home’ wedding invitation pasted at center, handwritten memoir text in blue ink above and below in the compiler’s hand. The card, in formal engraved script, is from Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gaillard Fitz Simons inviting the recipient to the marriage of their daughter Amy Perry to Mr. James Pickens Walker on the evening of 20 October 1908 at nine o’clock, At Home, Adams Run, S.C. The note above places the wedding in the context of the 1907–08 financial panic: in the spring of 1908 the bottom fell out, no work, everything at a standstill — Puck (her fiancé’s nickname) was laid off but they went ahead and married anyway. The note below names the wedding party: Harrell Gurney best man, Harry Sass maid of honor. ‘Puck’ is Amy’s family nickname for James Pickens Walker (Pickens → Puck).
