Items to consider in writing your

Family Household History

I. When and why your family came to the county

  1. How old were you (if you weren’t born here)
  2. Include as many generations as you can.
  3. Where did they learn of the County.
  4. Where did they settle.
  5. Your Childhood: health, accidents, playmates, trips, brothers and sisters, unusual happenings, visitors, relatives you remember, factors that influenced your lifestyle.
  6. Schooldays: Schools attended, teachers, special activities, achievements, humorous situations, who or what influenced you most.

II. Activities:

  1. Jobs: What did your ancestors do for a living. What is your present occupation.
  2. Sports.
  3. Transportation in your family.
  4. Courtship and Marriage: where you met, proposal, wedding parties, honeymoon, meeting your in-laws.
  5. Married life: settling down, your new home, housekeeping, joys and sorrows.

III. Avocations:

  1. What do you do for recreation.
  2. Civic and Political Activities.
  3. Church: Activities, Influence.
  4. Hobbies.
  5. Travels.
  6. Family landmarks and historical sites.

IV. Remembrance:

  1. Special celebrations.
  2. Holidays, birthdays, etc.
  3. Ancestors: impressions of those you knew and heard about.
  4. Hardships.
  5. Humorous Incidents. Frightening Experiences.

V. Writing tips:

  1. Tell what is interesting and meaningful to you.
  2. You will not be graded. This is not a test!
  3. Any story that does not embarrass or hurt someone is acceptable.
  4. If your story is not included, the History of our County will not be complete.
  5. DO IT NOW!
