Handwritten record of the marriage of Amy Perry FitzSimons to James Pickens Walker, 1908; with births of their first two children

A single-leaf handwritten family-Bible style record in flowing ink, in the compiler Amy’s hand, recording her marriage on 20 October 1908 at home in Adams Run, S.C., by the Rev. Thomas P. Baker, to James Pickens Walker of Philippi, West Virginia, and listing their first two children: Amy Perry (born 20 March 1910, Sunday at 11:30 P.M., died at Weldon, N.C., age 14 mos.) and James Pickens Walker Jr. (born Charleston, S.C., January 5th 1912, with ‘2 P.M.’ added in pencil below the date). Some staining along the right margin. Key readings: ‘Their child is’ (singular, written before the second child was added); minister’s name ‘Rev. Thomas P. Baker’ (initial after ‘P’ uncertain at this resolution but reads as ‘P’); ‘Philippi’ (West Virginia town) confirmed; pencilled ‘2 P.M.’ inserted between the January 5th date and the Jr.'s name, evidently a later annotation.

The opening line reads “Their child is” in the singular — the page was written when Amy Perry the elder daughter was still the only child; the second entry recording James Pickens Walker Jr.'s 5 January 1912 birth was added afterward in the same hand, and the pencilled “2 P.M.” beneath the date was added later still.
