Miss Maria del Carmen Ochoa Kress
Weds Frank Lockwood FitzSimons III
Miss Maria del Carmen Ochoa Kress became the bride of Frank Lockwood FitzSimons III in a ceremony at St. John-in-the-Wilderness, Flat Rock, at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 19. The Rev. Walter Roberts performed the ceremony. Wedding music was by William Smyth, organist, and Mrs. Jean W. Finch, soloist.
The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. Augusto Ochoa and Mrs. Amalia Kress deSilvas. Her foster parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gary Harthcock, formerly of Ravenswood, Flat Rock, now serving as missionaries in St. John’s, Antigua, West Indies.
Given in marriage by her foster father, the bride wore a gown of candlelight satin and lace which she designed and made. The bodice and sleeves were of lace, with scalloped lace and pearl appliques at the hems of the sleeves and bodice train. The full length train, which fell from a crown of appliqued pearls, was bordered in lace. She carried a white lace and mother of pearl Spanish fan with white and pink roses from the famous rose garden of the bridegroom’s grandfather, and a lace handkerchief made from the wedding gown of her foster mother’s wedding dress.
Miss Susan Sapp, roommate at Middle Georgia College, Cochran, Ga., was maid of honor. Her gown was white sheer with pink dots to match the underlining. The scoop necked bodice was trimmed with full ruffles, and full ruffles were on the skirt of the dress. Her headpiece was of pink ribbon and flowers with pink and full length veil. She carried two long pink roses with baby’s breath, nestled in net and long pink and white ribbons.
Bridesmaids were Miss Debbie [—] Elder of [Dawson, Ga.,] college classmate, and Ms. Mindy Hefner of Hendersonville. Their dresses were identical to that of the maid of honor and each carried one long stemmed pink rose with baby’s breath, nestled in pink net with short pink and white ribbons. All the attendants’ dresses were also designed and made by the bride.
Miss Christina Allston of Johns Island, S.C., carried the traditional Guatemala wedding chain. David Stamey of Statesville was ringbearer. Bill McKibbin of Flat Rock was acolyte.
The father of the bridegroom was best man.
Dunkin FitzSimons of Hendersonville, brother of the bridegroom, was head usher, and Donald McKay Allston of St. Johns Island, S.C., cousin of the bridegroom, and Robert G. Hefner of Hendersonville were the other ushers.
The reception followed at the Parish House of St. John-in-the-Wilderness, with Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Last, Mr. and Mrs. Duane McKibbin, Mrs. Harvey Breeding, Mrs. Gilbert Varnell, Mrs. Donald Allston Jr., Mrs. Jimmy Dishner, Mrs. Hugh Endy, Mrs. Benjamin Marlowe, Mrs. Ralph Garrett, Mrs. Martin Harthcock, Mrs. Robert Hefner and Ms. Marty Allson assisting.
After the honeymoon, the couple will reside at Indigo Plantation, Beaufort, S.C., where the bridegroom will be plantation manager.
The bride attended private schools in Guatemala, Central America and graduated from high school in Puerto Rico. She attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran, Ga., and Blue Ridge Technical Institute here.
The bridegroom graduated from East Henderson High School and is a 1976 graduate of Clemson University, Clemson, S.C. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
