So glad Maggie is there —

    Lovingly,

    Louisa

Minnie said, Maggie, Marguerite, Irene & Bo all came to the expense as well [as] Minnie herself —

[Compiler’s pencil docket, written sideways along the lower-left margin in a later hand:]

Louise FitzSimons

AI Notes

The writer’s signature reads ‘Louisa’ (not ‘Louise’). The pencil docket on the back, in a later hand, names her ‘Louise FitzSimons’ - either a later mis-spelling by the compiler or a known variant. Second sheet of the letter begun on page 515 (a late Sept/early Oct 1948 letter to Aunt Ellen FitzSimons about her CLS - Charleston Library Society - retirement; the writer was leaving the next day for West Virginia). Only a few lines of writing at the top - the closing of the letter - followed by a short postscript naming the family members who shared in the expense of the retirement gift/event: ‘Minnie said, Maggie, Marguerite, Irene & Bo all came to the expense as well [as] Minnie herself.’ The rest of the page is blank ruled paper with a pencil docket ‘Louise FitzSimons’ written sideways along the lower-left margin in a later hand. Same blue-ink hand as page 515.

The signature on the letter itself reads “Louisa”; the later pencil identification on the back spells the name “Louise.” The two are almost certainly the same person - the docket appears to be the compiler’s own retrospective identification of the writer, with a slight spelling variant.
