First sheet of a four-page letter (pp. 505–508) in blue ink on lined paper from Ellen Milliken FitzSimons (‘Ellie’, the recently-retired Charleston Library Society Librarian — see p501) to her sister, the album’s compiler Amy FitzSimons (Mrs. James Pickens Walker). Dated ‘Hendersonville, N. C., Oct 26, 1948,’ opening ‘Dear Sister.’ Ellie writes about the autumn color in the western North Carolina mountains and recalls earlier ‘Mills River days’ (a reference to the family’s earlier summers near the Mills River valley in Henderson County, N.C., a long-time refuge for Charleston families escaping the lowcountry heat).
