Page 2 of a letter mentioning Frank and James, with overlapping caption, a second letter fragment, and a funeral-notice clipping
Book 1, Page 486 ·1929–1939
Transcription
A composite scan with four overlapping items.
Top — page 2 of a folded letter (with the page-number ‘2’ visible at the top centre):
Frank was very nice, and invited James and myself over to dinner. He looks splendidly, and is certainly in love with this country. I sincerely trust that you will not have the troublesome time with your affairs this year, that you have the past two.
[The hand matches the letter of 22 November 1929 on pages 482–483; this is almost certainly that letter’s page 2. ‘Frank’ and ‘James’ are family members the writer (W. Huger FitzSimons) has reported on from his retirement in the Hendersonville / Flat Rock area of western North Carolina.]
Just below — fragmentary cursive showing through from a second underlying letter:
…tzSimons … It co— [illegible] …as …shines with … …se past years
[A different, smaller hand from the page-2 sheet above. Only a few words of the underlying letter peep through the gap between sheets; the rest is hidden.]
Middle — caption visible from the preceding album page (page 485):

[Continuation hidden behind the upper sheet; see page 485 for the full caption text.]
Right edge — small fragment of a printed funeral notice:

AI Notes
A composite scan at the head of an album page, showing four overlapping items. (1) The upper sheet is the second page of a folded letter (cursive page-number ‘2’ at the top centre) ending with the writer’s report that ‘Frank’ looks splendidly and that he and James were invited to dinner; the hand matches the 1929 letter on pages 482–483 and is almost certainly the same letter’s page 2, with the writer being W. Huger FitzSimons. (2) Beneath the upper sheet, the tail end of another letter is just visible — ‘…tzSimons’ at the top, then ‘It co— / …as / …shines with…’ and ‘…se past years’ — apparently a second cursive letter in a different hand. (3) Below that, the caption from the preceding album page 485 (‘Letter to W. H. FitzSimons from Mr. Nat. Barnwell…’) is partly visible. (4) At the right edge, a small fragment of a printed funeral notice headed ‘County’ reports funeral services for W. FitzSimons, who died Saturday afternoon in Hendersonville, services held yesterday at Magnolia cemetery, the Rev. Wright officiating, burial conducted by Connelley’s — almost certainly the 1939 funeral notice for W. Huger FitzSimons.
The notice is from a Charleston paper of 1939 reporting the funeral of W. Huger FitzSimons, who died at Flat Rock / Hendersonville and was buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. Only a few lines are visible in the scan; the remainder of the clipping is presumably mounted elsewhere or has been trimmed away.
