Dear Ann,
It’s so hard to believe that summer is gone — time goes by faster than ever.
We have had a pleasant, but rather uneventful summer. Ned worked as a “gopher” in Daddy’s office and I think he enjoyed it, but of course won’t admit it. Handwritten letter in blue ballpoint on plain wove paper. The date “Sept 4” is circled at the upper right; “1985” follows outside the oval. From Nancy McEwan Green (daughter of Mary Ann Walker McEwan “Betty”, granddaughter of compiler Amy FitzSimons Walker) to her aunt Ann Seymour Knight (Mrs. James Pickens Walker Jr.) of Jacksonville. This is the “beginnings of a letter I started writing to you last Sept.” that Nancy refers to in her typed Feb. 26, 1986 letter on pages 423–424. Nancy reports a pleasant if uneventful summer; her son Ned has worked as a “gopher” in his father’s office and saved his pay; he returns for his last year at The Hill (The Hill School, Pottstown, Penn.) on Sept. 10, and has begun considering colleges — Washington & Lee, Georgia Tech, Florida, UVA, and MIT. The page ends mid-sentence: “At the moment, I am waiting in a…” (continued on page 430). body text confirmed against high-res scan — no transcription changes needed; people list trimmed to those actually named on this leaf (Nancy, Ann, Ned). The previously listed location “Orlando, Florida” retained for context (Nancy lived in the Orlando area and signs in the sequel sheet from a restaurant “south of Orl”).
The letter continues on page 430.
