Transcription
A single leaf of personal stationery, blue ballpoint cursive on cream paper. Letterhead printed in blue across the top centre:
MRS. THEODORE B. FitzSIMONS 184 TACOMA CIRCLE ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
Body of the letter:
Sunday.
Dearest Amy,
Thank you so much for the lovely card, and very pretty bond. I do appreciate both.
I hope you and Pucci had a happy Christmas — I have not heard if you went to Mary Ann’s this year.
Mother and I went to Mather’s Christmas eve, returning yesterday, and of course had a very cheerful time (just full of cheer!). Went over to Margarita & Frank’s for a drink Christmas eve — a nice open fire, everything very festive. I thought of you and Pucci, knowing you’d enjoy it. Kip, James and the boys were up for Christmas.
AI Notes
Opening leaf of a Christmas thank-you letter from Clara Mather FitzSimons (the widow of Theodore Barker FitzSimons, 1890–c.1949) of 184 Tacoma Circle, Asheville, North Carolina, to her sister-in-law Amy FitzSimons Walker. The printed letterhead at top centre reads ‘MRS. THEODORE B. FitzSIMONS / 184 TACOMA CIRCLE / ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA.’ Blue ballpoint cursive on cream paper. Dated only ‘Sunday’ but written just after Christmas. ‘Mary Ann’ is Amy’s sister Mary Annie FitzSimons Allston (1899–1980, Mrs. Donald McKay Allston Sr.). ‘Margarita & Frank’ are Margarita Kershaw FitzSimons and her husband Frank Lockwood FitzSimons Sr. of Hendersonville (the writer’s in-laws via the FitzSimons-FitzSimons cousin marriage of their children, see p348–349). ‘Pucci’ is Amy’s son James Pickens Walker Jr. The letter continues on pages 346 and 347 and is signed ‘Clara’ at the end. The underlined word ‘full’ is preserved as italic.
Continues on page 346. ‘Mother’ is the writer’s own mother (a Mrs. Mather); ‘Mary Ann’ is Amy’s sister Mary Annie FitzSimons Allston; ‘Margarita & Frank’ are Margarita Kershaw and Frank Lockwood FitzSimons Sr. of Hendersonville; ‘Pucci’ is Amy’s son James Pickens Walker Jr. ‘Kip’ and ‘James’ have not been definitively identified — likely younger members of the Allston-FitzSimons family circle.
