The coadjutor-elect was ordained a priest in May 1953. He was the assistant rector of Columbia’s Trinity Episcopal Church and a chaplain at the University of South Carolina from 1952 to 1954. He was an associate professor of church history at the University of the South from 1956 until 1967, and a professor of church history at Virginia Seminary from 1967 to 1975.
Dr. Allison has been the rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Manhattan since 1975.
Dr. Allison is married to the former Martha Allston Parker and has four children, ranging in age from 13 to 27.
Consecration of the new bishop coadjutor is scheduled for Sept. 25, the eve of the regular convention of the Diocese of South Carolina.
