Bishop Coadjutor Consecration Ceremony Today
The Rev. Dr. C. FitzSimons Allison will be consecrated as bishop coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina today at 11 a.m. at Gaillard Municipal Auditorium.
Dr. Allison will become bishop of the diocese upon the retirement of the current bishop, the Rt. Rev. Gray Temple.
The Rt. Rev. John M. Allin, presiding bishop of the 3 million-member Episcopal Church in the United States, will be the chief consecrator at the service. About 30 bishops of the Episcopal Church are expected to attend the ceremony.
The service will be open to the public. Church officials are urging interested persons to arrive at least a half hour before the start of the service. Free parking will be available at the auditorium.
Dr. Allison, a native of Columbia, has been rector of Grace Episcopal Church in New York for five years.
The Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina has about 26,000 members and 68 parishes or mission churches, of which more than a dozen are in the Charleston area.
