Charleston June 8th /72

Dear Mary, I will keep Tom’s birthday in mind by writing to thank you for your letters which we were so glad to get. It seems a long time in one way since he came to make such a world of difference in our lives, & yet it seems a little while for him to have got on so far into the years, while we find it hard to realize he is more than twenty — Tote’s little Baby is really a lovely little creature, so I dont mind telling you that I overheard Tote say to Kate this morning “he looks like Tom about the forehead” — He has been very sick lately but is not yet too thin to be pretty, just looks like a little minature, with his pale face, delicate features, large expressive eyes, & a ready smile like his Mother’s. Tote’s other children are not special in their looks just now but have
